Who are we?

The Manitoba Weed Supervisors Association is comprised of and represents Weed Supervisors who are individually employed by Weed Control Boards formed within their respective Weed Control Districts. These are defined in the Province of Manitoba's "Noxious Weeds Act" as follows:

Weed Control Board

31(1) A municipality may, by by-law,

(a) establish a Weed Control District covering all the municipality and provide for the appointment of a Weed Control Board; or

(b) make an agreement with any other municipality for joint action in establishing a Weed Control Board District covering all those municipalities; and appointing a Weed Control Board;

to control, supervise, and manage a program of control and destruction of noxious weeds within the Weed Control District.

There are currently 32 Weed Control Districts across Manitoba representing 70 Municipal organizations.  Although programs vary from district to district, the basic function remains the same (i.e. to prevent the growth and subsequent spread of weeds onto neighbouring property).  This is accomplished primarily through:

(a) weed control programs on public property within each district,

(b) enforcement of the “Noxious Weeds Act”.

Mission Statement

The main mandate of the MWSA is to supply our members with up-to-date weed control information, assisting them in providing effective and cost efficient weed control programs within their respective districts, and on a broader front to promote integrated and environmentally sustainable weed control programs throughout the Province.
